Middlesbrough FC
1899-1902
Half-back

Luke played for Middlesbrough (or Boro) FC for the better part of 3 seasons at the turn of the century. It is unclear which team he came from, and hopefully further research will uncover whether it was Hibernian, Third Lanark, or Sheffield United. In February 1902 he parted for Clyde FC.

Here are some notes from Luke's time at Middlesbrough:

"At meeting of directors at end Sept 1899 it was agreed that the match secretary go to Edinburgh and arrange for the temporary transfer of the following Hibs players - Raisbeck, Maine and Brodigan, club agreeing to pay Hibs £10 each for these men to come down on trial - the balance of transfer fee being payable if men satisfactory. Also agreed that Morren (ex-Boro player who went to Sheffield Utd) be written to about Raisbeck’s ability. Weekly wages of Raisbeck to be 50/-. (note Bible reports we got him from Third Lanark). On October 9 it was reported that he had signed professional for the club - bonus £10 and wages of 50/- per week. Sheffield United transfer fee £10! Left half. After a match at Newton Heath in Dec 1899 directors agreed that he be granted leave to visit his father in Manchester. In January 1900 directors wrote to him to condemn in strong terms "his practice of playing foul and so bringing his side under the notice and penalty of the referee". After failing to get in even the A team, transferred to Glasgow Clyde in Feb 02.

He actually made his debut in the following game, a week later, a goalless home draw with Luton. No. 6 was a problem position for the club – Raisbeck was the sixth different player to be given the no. 6 shirt in the opening nine league games."
